about us

At g&m design we create personalised typographic artworks by hand-printing with antique letterpress printers’ blocks. The blocks are individually inked and printed by hand (there is no digital printing or processing involved), creating a beautifully textured authentic finish - each artwork is unique and full of character.   In this age of digitally mass-produced products, our artworks stand out and are loved by people who appreciate quality and the hand-made.

Artworks are available on Italian printing paper, framed in a high quality box frame (framing generally only available for customers in New Zealand, but we can deliver unframed artworks anywhere in the world). Alternatively, printing can be done on painted unstretched canvas scrolls. See our gallery for examples of our work.

Most of our artworks are bespoke; specially commissioned by our customers to create a personalised treasure.   Customers choose their own colours and about 20 words. They may be words around a particular theme, or simply an eclectic collection of significant words, names, places and dates in someone's life. The possibilities are endless.

Artworks from g&m design are a beautiful and fresh way to capture memories. They also make ideal gifts for weddings, anniversaries (the perfect paper gift for first wedding anniversaries), birthdays, graduations, farewells or other special occasions (sometimes a few people will club together to commission an artwork for a gift, and we can supply gift vouchers), and provide an opportunity to create a family heirloom. They are also popular with corporates, lodges and cafes.

Artworks on paper often use one main colour with an accent colour to make a strong visual impact, and sometimes one or two words are added in a third colour. Almost any colour is available. Current popular combinations are black with red accents, brown with duck egg blue, charcoal with a soft grey-green, and grey and black with orange or hot pink. Our canvas scroll artworks use one background colour and one or more colours for the words. Our most popular combination for these is a black background with white words or a white/cream background with candy stripe coloured words.
